Freedom of Speech: Unless you annoy us, then, not so much

By this time, I'm sure you have all seen or heard about the student at the University of Florida who was arrested and subjected to a Taser gun when he refused to leave the microphone at a forum with John Kerry.

So, the guy was annoying. And six police officers couldn't control him without using a Taser?! And then arresting him for “inciting a riot”? If you watch the video below, you will see that any reaction from the crowd is surely the result of the strong-arm tactics of the police, and not from anything the student said or did.

Is this the state of our country today? When someone won't shut up we zap them and take them away in handcuffs?

This is democracy?

And what was Kerry doing when all this was happening - calling a conference to reach an agreement with all parties involved? How silent he is! If he had spoken up for the young man, you can bet the police officers would have backed off. Kerry will protect your civil rights unless you happen to be annoying.

I'm really disappointed in Kerry's reaction, too. I can appreciate that he was trying to be a calm voice, but really, how could he stand up on stage and not be more forceful in telling the police to allow the man to ask his question? And then it seemed to me he waited a long time before making a statement condemning the aggressive tactics used by the police.

Well, i read all the articles about the subject and to tell the truth i was all about freedom of speech, police abuse, etc, etc..but...

After watching the video i can just tell the guy WAS NOT taking the whole Kerry thing serious, nor showed respect for others. You can tell the other students were laughing at the fact that someone gave this dude the microphone, and that he was just talking shit.

Although i think the tazer was a lil much, i think the actions of this guy were excessive as well. He was just acting the whole time to drag attention to himself. I felt i was watching an episode of "Jackass".
(who says: are you gonna taze me?!!!,"please don't taze me!!!.."
C'mon dude! shut your mouth and they will not taze you moron!)

Thank God the cops weren't entirely Black, or entirely Hispanic, otherwise they would be playing the race / hate crime card by now!

Even if, as news reports now indicate, this student was doing this all as a "stunt," it does not give the police the right to use force. Perhaps it was a stunt; if so, the point was well made.

Just look at your own statement: "C'mon dude! shut your mouth and they will not taze you"

Whoa! No one should be afraid to speak for fear of physical harm. Not in this country.

Hey, has anyone seen the videos on CNN?? The officers ask the people taking the videos to step away, which they also had no right to do, it is a public school campus.

And the kid was nervous, as someone who has done public speaking, I could tell, if I was speaking to a man who RAN FOR PRESIDENT, I would be nervous too, and if the police asked/forced me to stop, I would be just as upset.

I hope all the morons who are gung-ho for the police find something they want to speak out on, but are told (forced) to leave. Then lets see if they are so "He deserved it, because he was practicing 1st Amendment rights!!"

As someone still growing up, frankly, I'm getting disgusted with my country.
