"It's a special occasion"

That's what we say when we let the dog on the couch. Which is basically all the time. But he never jumps up there without asking permission, which essentially consists of his placing his chin on the sofa cushion and then looking at us with the ultimate "puppy eyes." Well, it's a special occasion, we say. Okay!

But today really and truly is a special occasion, because Fritz is here at work with me and is sitting by my feet as I write. A colleague is writing a children's alphabet book using photographs of dogs for each letter, and she needed an "f". So here we are!

We've taken lots of walks this morning and already had one photo shoot, so Fritz is seeming pretty calm. It's unfortunate that there are workmen down the hall today banging on things, but after one bark, Fritz seems to accept their noise.

My colleague has been interviewed by Time magazine about a previously written book of photographs on dogs, called Black is Beautiful: A Celebration of Dark Dogs. (Black dogs are much harder to find homes for.) Fritz is honored to be a part of her new book, aren't you boy? Fritz? Wake up Fritz!

Awwww! I have a special place in my heart for dogs. I know what you mean about black dogs. As popular as Labrador Retrievers are, it's usually the chocolate or the yellow that get picked first. I'm afraid the breeders are going to all but eliminate the black ones! I didn't realize this until after I got my chocolate lab. Now I want to adopt a black one...but my husband is fighting me on getting another dog. We've had multiple dogs for years, but it also means multiple vet appointments and double the money for care.

Fritz looks so happy! Of course...he's a STAR!

You go, Fritzerby. Photo shoot and all. Don't get too classy for the rest of us. But then you're too sweet to do that. Congrats to yur mommy, too.

G., he's had about enough of this "modeling" thing. People think it's glamorous but it's really hard work!

(Or so they tell us on Top Model!)

Mary Ellen, I don't know, I've never had a lab, but the thought of having two of them in the house ... I can't imagine!

Oh sure, first a few months ago we see stitches above his eye. Yeah right, that was a ruse I bet. He got his eyes done didn't he??? Just for this occassion I bet.

Fritze has always been a star in my eyes (as "undone" as they are!")

Sue J- Some Labs could be pretty wild, but the English bred Labs have a much calmer disposition. They're also smaller than the American bred Labs..shorter stature, blockier looking. All in all, very laid back.

He is so handsome! How cool that he's going to be featured in the book! Will he be signing copies?

That's great! He's beautiful.

LOL about the "special occasions." That's how we ended up having our previous dog sleep in our bed for the rest of her life; it started as only on "special occasions." (When we got Diva she started off on the bed and that was the end of it.)
