Wednesday poetry break

I think we'll stay with the "animal" theme today. Here's a short little poem by Dorothy Parker, in which, as always, she has several layers to enjoy .....

Ornithology For Beginners

The bird that feeds from off my palm
Is sleek, affectionate, and calm,
But double, to me, is worth the thrush
A-flickering in the elder-bush.

Oh good, it's an animal theme...I was thinking for a moment it was a poop theme.

Perfect as I sit here watching the birds stop by the feeder.

nah Morgan, I think we did that once already here!

Dcup, but do you have a thrush a'-flickering in the elder-bush?

Drats Sue - you beat me!

I was going to inquire about the double meaning in the same lines...

"a-flickering in the elder bush"?

Hee hee. No thrushes a flickering in the elder bush, but I did have a sparrow tickling the wisteria. Well, actually, several sparrows, a bunch of cardinals, a chickadee or two and a redwing blackbird, all tickling the wisteria, but that's not something I tell too many people about.

Oh my. Your wisteria has been very very busy!
