Harper Lee, the author of To Kill a Mockingbird, has been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, by George Bush.
Aside from the obvious joke, that I'm sure he's never read the book, how about the irony of the weakest, most amoral president in our history honoring the author of a book which tells the story of justice and equality.

Lee won the 1961 Pulitzer Prize for the novel, which is credited with helping to focus the country at the height of the civil-rights movement by raising awareness of the injustices of discrimination.How about this: Scout for President!

Who actually choses the recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom?
The President chooses the recipients.
So in this case, you know what that means: someone told George who to award it to. Perhaps some staffer just saw the movie on AMC ....
