As for me, I enjoy the stories for what they are: stories. And they are very creatively illustrated in the form of Legos at a site called The Brick Testament. It really brings out the absurdity of taking these stories too literally in today's world. Enjoy!
Deuteronomy 15:16
'But if the slave says to you, "I do not want to leave you," because he loves you and your family, and is well off with you...'

Deuteronomy 15:17
'...then you must take an awl and drive it through the slave's ear and into the door. He will be your servant forever.'

Yikes!
